I have always been a supporter of women’s rights and gender equality, but it wasn’t until the recent political explosion and women’s marches that I’ve felt the need, now more than ever, to be vocal about women empowerment, equality and protection. I had a couple speed bumps during my chemotherapy treatment and was unfortunately hospitalized during the women’s marches. I was hit with an overwhelming amount of emotion during the marches. I scrolled through social media in awe of the sea of women from across the nation that stood together to fight for our rights. Since I wasn’t able to participate in person, I vowed to show my support the way I knew best – through fashion.

Henriette Ernst felt the same intrinsic pressure to make a difference. It dawned on her during a walk with her dog and neighbor, Yasmeen Hassan, Global Executive Director of Equality Now. They talked about child marriage, youth education, genital mutilation and both of their frustrations boiled that there weren’t enough active solutions. Ernest lived and breathed fashion working as a design director in the industry for over 20 years for a variety renowned labels. She became irritated and exhausted with the industry’s lack of support and awareness for women’s rights. She seized the opportunity and established a conscious fashion brand, ROUND + SQUARE, created on the foundation of style, feminist substance and environmental sustainability. ROUND + SQUARE prides themselves on the belief that change can happen through beautifully designed apparel created with sustainable materials and an efficient supply-chain model. ROUND + SQUARE’S brand DNA is comprised of organic cotton, no child labor, toxin-free, water-saving methods and GOTS certification, proving that ethics and sustainability do not come at the expense of style. Think eco-enthusiasts meet feminist divas.

ROUND + SQUARE also proudly supports female philanthropic efforts, donating 30% of sales profits to Equality Now, a non-profit organization founded to help thousands of women and girls across the world to ensure equality and opportunity. Women and girls comprise half of the world’s population and deserve basic human rights like our counterpart. ROUND + SQUARE clearly acknowledges this created an additional layer of corporate social responsibility.

I feel so empowered and beautiful in their iconic “Girl Power” organic t-shirt. The fact that an individual can spread the message of strength, hope and optimism through a t-shirts branding and production shows that ROUND + SQUARE, and fashion in general, is a powerful catalyst for change. The unique design was hand-drawn by Founder, Henriette Ernst and adds a colorful touch to any look. Similarly, the graffiti-inspired Aquarelle Paisley Shawl is a bright accessory for all women at any age. The luxurious, lightweight silk is 100% silk made in Italy and the label is woven out of polyester yarn made out of recycled PET bottles. The shawl features hand-drawn designs using crayons, pencils and markers that make up a raw yet beautiful pattern. Definitely not your average art-project.

The next time you reach for your a plain white tee or average scarf hanging in your closet, think twice about where it comes from and the message it sends to others. Why not enjoy fashion while advocating for women’s rights and equality? Shop the Aquarelle Paisley Shawl for 15% OFF with promo code “KARA15″ – valid until May 31st.
